Building History

Construction began on Bishop O'Dea High School on 03/17/1923; the school was dedicated nearly a year later, 03/16/1924. The school was named for the head of the Seattle Archdiocese, Bishop Edward John O'Dea, (b. 11/23/1856 in Boston, MA-d. 12/25/1932); he was ordained the third Bishop of Nesqually on September 8, 1896. The Vatican transferred O'Dea from Vancouver, WA, to Seattle, WA, on 09/11/1907.

O'Dea High School has had numerous additions since 1924. The Seattle structural engineering firm, Swenson Say Faget performed a seismic study/retrofit of O'Dea High School in 2001. The architect for the firm was Stockbridge.
