Seattle Deputy Mayor Timothy Ceis advocated the spending of $75 million from Seattle's hotel-motel tax revenues on further renovation of the Seattle Key Arena; Ceis, along with Microsoft Chief Executive, Steven Ballmer, hoped that renovated and enlarged would convince NBA Head David Stern that the city had become worthy of another NBA franchise after the loss of the Supersonics in 2008. Mayor Nickels took wide criticism for his legal handling of the city's court case that sought to slow the the team's departure to Oklahoma City.
