Pereira and Associates was asked to design the Central University Library, which would be the key building for the entire University of California, San Diego (UCSD). The architect's relationship with the University of Califoria at San Diego began in 1957 when he was asked by the Regents to find an appropriate site for a new campus in this part of the state. The staff made an exhaustive study, producing some 19 sites which were evaluated in depth;" (p. 5)
