"One of the most exclusive residential neighborhoods in Los Angeles, was developed as a subdivision by Judge Charles Silent...originally 13 acres behind Saint Vincent's Church at the corner of Figueroa Street and West Adams Boulevard. The property had 12 homes surrounded by wrought iron fences and huge gates. In later years Edward L. Doheny [Sr.] bought much of the acreage and tore down Judge Silent's home for more garden space. The judge had an exotic garden."
