Weyerhaeuser concluded the sale of its container-board packaging unit to International Paper, which commenced in 03/2008, on 08/04/2008. Weyerhaeuser needed the infusion of $6 billion in cash to pay debt. The deal included 9 containerboard factories, four kraft bag and sack production facilities, 72 packaging buildings, and 19 recycling centers. The sale affected 14,000 employees.
