Other downtown congregations--First United Methodist, Gethsemane Lutheran and Trinity Episcopal--sold land to developers in the 2000s, and First Presbyterian Church was considering the demolition of its own church and the sale of some of its land in 2008. Land sales would provide a huge influx of money with which the congregation could build a new, more popular church, replacing the then-unpopular 1969 NBBJ design, and provide new outreach services to the community.
