As to the changes executed by Goldstein and Lautner after 1980, Doubilet and Boles summarized: "To keep the living room open to the view, though no longer open to the air, Lautner used half-inch tempered frameless glass to replace a steel-framed window wall built by an owner subsequent to the Sheats. Skylights over the newly furnished kitchen and dining area were enlarged and fitted with motors so that they could retract, permitting cooking and eating under the open sky. Plaster walls were rebuilt in concrete, plaster ceilings were reclad in redwood, and glazed walls were upgraded with tempered glass. Concrete seating, tables, and bookshelves were added to the living room, all in keeping with the triangular shape that is the basis of the plan of the house." (p. 228)
