However, the true watershed in the evolution of his unqiue style came in the 1977-1978 renovation of his own house in Santa Monica, in which he enclosed a pink, typically suburban house wirh a skewed shell of corrugated metal, glass, and exposed timber framing. Nets of his soon-to-be trademark chain-link fencing, and a titled skylight over thekitchen, ass to the deliberate ambiguity of the design, a schizoid fusion of the ordinary and the incongruous.'What people didn't at first understand is that I don't set out to destroy order, but rather reinvent it.
