Résumé
Principal, A.T. Timewell, Architect, Spokane, WA, 1890. Timewell was asked in a newspaper article of 1890 whether or not he would be entering a possible competition for a new state capitol building for the WA State Legislature. He wrote: "I shall not offer any design for the capitol building, if I am to offer in competition with the designs of other architects. I do not think the plan a fair one. Aside from the bare possibility of being the successful competitor it entails some expense and requires a great deal of time and trouble and no assured compensation. I shall be glad, however, to submit plans should I be especially requested to do so." (See "Spokane Men Are Ready," Spokane Daily Chronicle, 02/24/1891, p. 5.) Other Spokane architects, including Riblet and Stock, Rand and Dow, C.B. Seaton, Albert Held, and Herman Preusse, surveyed in this article also expressed doubt that the competition would be fairly judged.
