At about the same time as his mother's marriage, Ralph moved to Santa Barbara, CA, where he worked as an architect and he and his wife lived at 1327 1/2 Bath Street in Santa Barbara in 1918. Biographical Notes

In 1942, at the age of 56, Armitage was described as Caucasian with a light complexion, blue eyes and brown and gray hair. He stood 5-10-and-1/2-inches tall and weighed 160 pounds. This document indicated that the architect had a "small scar left wrist."
