Scarpitta worked on architectural sculpture on the exterior of the Pacific Stock Exchange, Los Angeles, CA.
Scarpitta received his artistic education in Italy.
He moved from Italy to New York in 1910, where he set up a studio. He migrated to Los Angeles, CA, in 1923, probably with the promise of major sculptural commissions, such as the Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church (1923-1925). He resided in Los Angeles until his death in 1948.
He had two children that went into show business: Guy Scarpitta (1915–1978) and actress Carmen Scarpitta (1933–2008)
