Relocation

Isaac Roberts was born in Tecumseh, ON, Canada on 04/28/1859. His family worked on a farm near Tecumseh, Simcoe County, ON, Canada, until about 1863, when they moved to Farmington, NY. Isaac and his family remained here for eight years, before relocating to Muscatine, IA, by 1871, and subsequently to Carthage, MO, by 1874.

From Carthage, Isaac, his parents Andrew and Mary and four siblings moved to Portland, OR, by about 1884.

In 1900, Ike Roberts resided with his family at 684 East Morrison Street in Portland. They had moved to a house at 1029 Gay Avenue in Portland's Overlook neighborhood between 1907 and 1920, at least. (See R.L. He lived with his daughter Christine at 1095 Concord Avenue in Portland in 1930. Isaac remained in Portland, OR, until his death in 1941. He was buried at River View Cemetery in Portland.

Parents

His parents were Mary W. Phillips (born c. 1833 in Bond Head, ON, Canada-d. 07/31/1922 in Portland, OR). and Andrew Roberts (born 06/27/1832 in New Sharon, ON, Canada-d. 03/21/1910 in Caldwell, ID), who worked primarily as farmers. Andrew's obituary in theIdaho Daily Statesman read: "He married Mary Phillips of Bond Head Ontario, Canada, December 8, 1853. They moved to western New York in 1863, thence to Muscatine, Ia., in 1871, thence to 1874 to Carthage, Mo., thence west in 1884 to Portland, Ore., since which date he has divided his time between different places in Oregon and California, spending most of the last 10 years here." Isaac had five sibllings: Elizabeth Parkinson Roberts Cupp (born 09/04/1854 in Canada-d. 12/30/1922 in Boise, ID); William Andrew Roberts (born 08/05/1856 in Tecumseh, ON, Canada-d. 05/24/1926 in Seattle, WA); Joseph Cody Roberts (born 07/28/1862 in Tecumseh, ON, Canada-d. 10/01/1948 in Portland, OR); Sarah W. Roberts Manning (born c. 1865 in NY); and H.E. Roberts. (See "Roberts, Mary," Morning Oregonian, 08/02/1922, p. 18.) William Roberts worked as a real estate agent and a building contractor in Portland, OR, from about 1909 until 1914, when he moved to Seattle.

Spouse

Isaac wed twice, his first wife having been Della (perhaps Delila) F. Cupp (born c. 1854 in Walnut, OH-d. 02/1897 in ID), whom he married in 05/1881 in Jasper County, MO.

He wed Emma Jørgensen (born c. 1875 in UT-d. 11/11/1911 in Seattle, WA) in Portland, OR, in 1900. Her parents Jens PederJørgensen (born c, 1817 in Denmark) and Christiana Poulsen (born c. 1838 in Denmark) were Danish immigrants who farmed in the area near Logan, Utah Territory, during her earliest years and then in the AZ Territory by 1882. Jens Peder and Christiana had at least seven children, of whom Emma was likely the second youngest. Emma was about 16 years than Ike.

Emma passed away at age 36 in Seattle.

Children

He and Della had three children: Blanche Roberts Zubier (born c. 07/1882 or 1883 in MO-d. 06/27/1913 in WA), Elray Andrew Roberts (born 04/12/1889 in Carthage, MO-d. 11/30/1966 in Portland, OR) and Elma Roberts (born c. 04/1895 in ID d. 11/01/1918 in Portland, OR). Elma may have died in the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 which had its most severe death toll in 10-11/1918.

Isaac and Emma had five children together: Esther Roberts (born 02/11/1901 in Portland, OR), Gladys Roberts (born 11/16/1903 in OR-d. 07/18/1975 in San Francisco, CA), Verna Roberts Dempsey (born 03/12/1906 in Portland, OR-d. 11/01/1985 in Portland, OR), Christine Roberts Maddux (born 03/09/1908 in OR-d 05/27/1992 in OR) and Katherine Mary Roberts Wilder (born 10/08/1911 in Seattle, WA-d. 07/12/1987 in Portland, OR).
