Wyllie was born in Alameda County, CA, the son of Loring Wyllie, Sr., and Ruth Adelman. In 1940, Loren, Jr., lived with his parents in a rented house at 3890 Brighton Avenue in Oakland, CA's Glenview neighborhood. Most neighbors in the immediate vicinity owned their own houses that ranged from $5,000 to $6,500 in value, modest by Bay Area standards.
