Relocation
Octavius George Moore was born c. 1848, although there is disagreement in documents as to whether he had been born in Ireland or NY State. San Francisco County voter registration records of 1878 listed the former, the 1880 US Census, the latter. The 1878 voter registration record listed his date of naturalization, 12/22/1874 in US District Court in San Francisco specifically, suggesting that this might have been his true origin. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation California State Library; Sacramento, California; Great Registers, 1866-1898; Collection Number: 4-2A; CSL Roll Number: 43; FHL Roll Number: 977099, accessed 10/23/2023.) His will of 1887 small amounts to relations in Dublin, Ireland, lending credence, perhaps to his Irish birth.
He may have been born in Ireland and come to the US as a child or a young man. No documents on his journey from Ireland have been found, as yet.
By at least 1868, at age 20, Moore lived in San Francisco, CA, In that year, he resided at 20 Tehama Street in San Francisco. (See The San Francisco directory for the year commencing October, 1868, p. 405.) He moved frequently within San Francisco (and Oakland) between 1868 and and his death in 1887.
The architect dwelled at 12 Stanford Street in San Francisco in 1871, but had moved to 830 Mission Street by 1872. (See The San Francisco directory for the year commencing April, 1871, p. 473 and San Francisco, California, City Directory, 1872, p. 475.)
In 1875, he dwelled at 530 Greenwich Street in San Francisco's Telegraph Hill neighborhood. He relocated to 934 Dolores Street by 1878, where he continued to reside for at least part of 1880. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation California State Library; Sacramento, California; Great Registers, 1878; Collection Number: 4-2A; CSL Roll Number: 43; FHL Roll Number: 977099, accessed 10/23/2023 and The San Francisco Directory for the year commencing April, 1880, p. 654.)
By 06/08/1880, Moore rented a room at James and Jane Garlick's residence, 715 13th Street, Oakland, CA. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Year: 1880; Census Place: Oakland, Alameda, California; Roll: 61; Page: 176C; Enumeration District: 009, accessed 01/03/2024.)
Moore died on 12/15/1887 and was buried in the Odd Fellows' Cemetery in San Francisco, but his remains were transferred to Greenlawn Memorial Park in Colma, CA, during the 1930s.
