Professional Activities

Speaker, Better-Housing Campaign Launch, Seattle, WA, 1934. The Seattle Daily Times said of this event: "When 200 men and women begin the Better-Housing Campaign, canvass of Seattle homes Friday, they will find one in five of the 100,000 dwellings needs mjor repairs and one in two needs some repair. That giant list of 'prospects' was placed before the canvassers at the Seattle Chamber of Commerce auditorium yesterday. 'Not only the building industry, but manufacturing in a wide range, transportation and wholesale and retail trade, will receive marked impetus from the success of this campaign,' said James E. Bradford, state director for the Federal Housing Administration, told the workers. The canvass will bring the housing campaign direct to homes, and canvassers will show homeowners how remodeling work, done through a simple system of loans, will help individuals and the entire community. Other speakers at yesterday's meet were A.M. Young, chief engineer of the Washington Emergency Relief Administration; William O. McKay, campaign chairman; Darwin Meisnest, vice chairman; Kenelm Winslow, Jr., vice president of the Seattle Trust Company; Harry O. Bold, president of the Seattle Real Estate Board, and Harold N.
