According to his obituary, Creager "...worked as an architect for firms in Decatur, Peoria, Ottawa and Champaign, Illinois, and Dubuque, Iowa, before joining the firm of Kenneth W. Brooks and Associates [sic] in Spokane in 1962. (See "Creager, Jr., Frederick Leon AIA Emeritus," Spokane Spokesman-Review, 07/07/2013, p. B6.) (An article from 1963 in the Spokane Chronicle indicatedf that he had become an Associate on 12/24/1963. It is possible that Creager moved to Spokane in 1962, and was made an associate the following year. See "Creager Joins Architect Firm," Spokane Chronicle, 12/24/1963. p. 3.)

His obituary summarized his teaching: "Fred departed Spokane to teach architecture at Tunghai University, Taichung, Taiwan, and at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He held the positions of Associate Professor of Architecture and Director of Research and was offering continuing professional education courses at UH Manoa recently before his death. His work there took him to the Marshall Islands, American Samoa, Fiji and China. His work with students at UH Manoa included the design of a new sustainable settlement at Rongelap Atoll within the Republic of the Marshall Islands. On sabbatical, he was a guest lecturer at Paris Sorbonne University and the University of Manchester in the UK." B.S., Architecture, University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, IL, 1954. Creager completed ROTC training and became a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserves, later rising to the rank of Captain.

Personal

Relocation

Frederick Leon Creager, Jr., was born in Springfield, MA, on 03/09/1926, but raised in Camden, NJ, and Princeton, NJ. He attended Princeton High School.

At age 18 and before graduation from Princeton High, Creager signed up for the US Army Air Forces in 1944. After the war, he attended several universities, including Milliken University in Decatur, IL, Bradley University in Peoria, IL, and Loras College in Dubuque, IA. He received a B.S. in Architecture from the University of Illinois in 1954.

The architect moved from Galena, IL, in the Quad Cities area, to Spokane in about 1962. He worked for the Spokane architectural partnership of Brooks, Hensley and Creager for more than 20 years.

Creager moved to Honolulu, HI, likely during the 1980s to begin a teaching career.

The architect died at the Straub Clinic and Hospital in Honolulu, HI, and was buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, HI. (See "Creager, Jr., Frederick Leon AIA Emeritus," Spokane Spokesman-Review, 07/07/2013, p. B6.)

He had two brothers Edwin Francis Creager and Robert Sharpe.

Spouse

Creager married twice. He first married Evelyn Timmons (born 03/19/1927 in IL) on 12/25/1949. He filed for a divorce from her that was granted on 09/30/1988. He later wed Lee Susan Horn (1943-2018).

Children

He had two sons, Doric C. Creager (born 11/1950 in Spokane, WA) and Kurt Creager.
