His father was the architect Charles F. Hummel (born 04/1858 in Germany). According to the 1900 US Census, Charles immigrated to the US in 1886 and had been naturalized by this time. He settled in Snohomish County, WA, by the early 1890s, where his son Frank was born. By 1899, he and his family had relocated to Boise, ID, where Frank's sister Mary was born. They did not remain married long, as Violet remarried engineer Percival Horace Chambers (born 04/18/1892 in New York, NY-d. 07/13/1976 in Los Angeles County, CA), by at least 1922. She and Chambers lived at 705 Linden Drive in Beverly Hills, CA.
