In 1900, August R. Denke, Jr., lived with his brother, Federick G. Denke, at 626 Buena Vista Avenue in Alameda, CA. The US Census of 1900 noted that August, Jr., worked as an architect and builder, while Frederick was a carpenter. His father was August R. Denke, Sr., (born 02/13/1844 in Germany-d. 02/13/1905 in CA), who also was an architect and builder in Alameda County, CA. His mother was Margaretha Seib (born 04/02/1841 in Hofheim, Hessen, Germany-d. 05/13/1899 in Oakland, CA).

His four siblings included: Edmond Herman Denke (d. 05/19/1944 in San Francisco, CA), Anna Katherine Denke Kyne (born 06/22/1874 in IL-d. 06/19/1946 in Alameda County, CA), Agnes Martha Denke (born 03/03/1878 in Oakland, CA-d. 01/31/1943 in San Francisco, CA) and Frederick George Denke (born c. 02/1880 in CA).
