Olwell, architect of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Ascension in Oakland, CA, for the San Francisco firm of Reid, Rockwell, Banwell and Tarics, Architects.

His father was Carl Joseph Tivel, Sr., (born 05/09/1912 in MI-d. 09/28/1959 in Marin County, CA) who worked in education. In 1940, he was a teacher in the San Gabriel, CA, area and later was the Superintendent of Larkspur School District. He wed Anna Lewis on 08/13/1934 in CA. Anna Gray Lewis (born 10/13/1919 in CO-d. 09/28/1959 in Marin County, CA) worked in home and raised four sons, Carl Joseph Tivel, Jr., (born 09/11/1936 in Los Angeles, CA), Brian Tivel, Dennis Adrian Tivel (born 06/17/1940 in CA) and Royce Anthony Tivel (born 12/12/1942 in Los Angeles County, CA) .

After the death of their parents, Brian Tivel and his brother Dennis, were adopted by the noted architect John Lyon Reid (1906-1982) and his wife Lily.
