Sue thrived in Seattle, and went on to establish an architectural legacy through her work as Director of Architecture and Engineering for the City of Seattle, overseeing numerous projects, which included the design and construction of the new main library, and redesign of fire stations across the city, a project she particularly enjoyed—seeking ideas and advice from the fire fighters themselves." Relocation
Born in Salt Lake City, UT, in 1948, Catherine Sue Partridge spent her early years living with her family in Los Alamos, NM, the city known for its World War II nuclear weapons research. She spent time during summers on family farms in ID and UT and graduated from Los Alamos High School c. 1966.
After high school, she attended Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, UT, where she matriculated in art and French language study. Following graduation from BYU, she spent some time living in Montreal, Canada, before going back to Los Alamos.
In 1973, She wed the biology professor Montgomery Slatkin, who taught at the University of Chicago. For about four years, they lived here and had guest residencies in England and Japan. Slatkin accepted a professorship at the University of Washington (UW) in 1977. In the years that followed she obtained a M.Arch. degree at UW and obtained positions with Seattle's city government.
She enjoyed outdoor activities and traveled the globe extensively. Her obittuary said of her travel experiences: "When not working, though, her greatest passion was travel. Sue had a thirst to see the world and she visited countries on every continent, sometimes alone and sometimes with friends. She hiked and explored, climbing around Mts. Fuji and Kilimanjaro and trekking in Nepal. She cruised to Antarctica and climbed Machu Picchu." (See Seattle Times.com, "Catherine Sue Partridge," published 08/27/2021, accessed 09/02/2021.) Partridge had a sabbatical year in 1996 in Rome studying the city's architecture and culture.
She passed away at her Seattle residence at the age of 72 from breast cancer, which she had fought for many years.

She had brothers Bruce Partridge and Edward Partridge, who survived her.
Spouse
She married Montgomery Slatkin, a Professor of Biology at the University of Chicago and the University of Washington (beginning in 1977) in 1973. They divorced in 1983.
