Résumé

Interior Designer, Pauline Peavy Studio, San Pedro, Los Angeles, CA, c. 1930.

Teaching

Member, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Extension Lecture Board, Westwood, Los Angeles, 1930. A brief story in the San Pedro News-Pilot said of Allen's appointment to this UCLA board in 1930: “Richard Hodges Allen, interior decorator of note, who has been connected with the Pauline Peavy Art Studio, and has been conducting a most successful class as a section of the Woman’s club has accepted an appointment as a member of the U.C.L.A. Extension Lecture board, his duties with the institution to begin next fall. Mr. Allen’s work will include radio talks on his chosen art, as well as conducting classed in various communities where the need arises, with the likelihood of having one in Pasadena, Glendale, Los Angeles, Hollywood and possibly San Diego. He will continue to hold classes in various homes, for the purpose of practical illustration of art principles in home decoration, this method having been made most popular by Mr. Allen. It is the hope of San Pedro women who have derived so much benefit from Mr. Allen’s wide knowledge of interior decorating, color, and design in the allied arts, that he will again form a class in San Pedro, either under the sponsorship of the Woman’s club of the Peavy Studio.” (See “Local Interior Decorator Joins U.C.L.A. Staff,” San Pedro News-Pilot, 07/14/1930, p. 5.)
