His first and middle names in Swedish were spelled "Karl Erik," but they were reversed and Anglicized to "Carl Eric," when he reached the US.

According to his World War II draft registration card, Rising stood six-feet tall and weighed about 185 pounds. Caucasian, he had a ruddy complexion, with hazel eyes and gray hair in 04/1942. The draft card noted that he had a "birthmark on forehead."
