2nd Mate, S.S. Kelso Victory, 1946. At age 25, Fairfax worked as 2nd Mate on the S.S. Kelso Victory, a victory ship launched on 12/30/1944 and named for the city of Kelso, WA, that sailed between Cristobal, Panama, and Honolulu, HI, during 1946. He began work on the S.S. Kelso Victory on 02/19/1946, and continued as a sailor on 06/11/1946. His father, Karl, (born 04/21/1890 in East Ham, Essex, England-d. 11/16/1967 in Burlingame, CA), worked as an accountant for an insurance company in 1930. His mother, Winifred Louise Broad, (born c. 1892 in England-d. 1963 in CA), managed the household that included a sister, Barbara Fairfax Phinney, (born c. 1919 in CA), and brother, Aubrey Broad Fairfax (born c. 1920 in CA).

In 1942, Karl worked for Rathbone, King and Seeley, an insurance company with an office at 114 Sansome Street in San Francico.

Karl married twice, the second time to Ruth Fairfax, who survived him at his death in 1967.

Biographical Notes
