His parents separated in 1939, and soon thereafter, he and his sister were sent to the Chemawa Indian School in Salem, OR, in 1940–1942

As a UW student in 1953, Reyes lived at 4708 18th Avenue NE in Seattle. (See Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1953, p. 1155.)

Between 1978 and 1990, Reyes owned land in Chelan County, WA.

Reyes had an address of 2317 19th Avenue South, Seattle, WA, in 1993 and1320 NW Kenny Drive in Pullman, WA, in 1994.

Parents

His mother was Mary Christian Hall Reyes (born 1913 or 1914). His father was Julian Reyes, who was born in the Philippines. Mary divorced Julian and remarried his one-time business partner, Harry Wong. Reyes and Wong had operated a Chinese restaurant together in 1935-1937 near the Grand Coulee Dam.

He had a brother, Bernie Whitebear (1937-2000) and a sister, Luana Reyes (1933-2001)

Spouse

He wed Joyce Meacham, a member of the Yakama and Warm Springs Indian Tribes, in 1955.
