Architect and Engineer, Trewhitt Shields Company, Fresno, CA, -1923. A 1923 note in the Architect and Engineer said this about Bruner: "Mr. E.L. Bruner, architect and structural engineer, formerly with the Trewhitt Shields Co. of Fresno, has entered the organization of Hamm & Grant, Inc., engineers and contractors, 607 Ferguson building, Los Angeles, and will be in charge of all design work." The Encyclopedia of American Biography (1960) summarized his career: "He was responsible for both the architectural and engineering design of many industrial buildings in southern California. Some them were Helms Bakery at Culver City, and Interstate Bakeries in Los Angeles, Glendale, Burbank, San Diego and Santa Ana; Don Baxter Laboratories, Glendale; Doheny Stone Drill Company, U.S. Motors and many others including laundries, packing houses and school buildings in and around Los Angeles."
