They had had, according to the 1900 US Census, seven children, five of whom survived in that year. His siblings included Richard Lamar (born c. 09/1880 in WV), Daniel S. Lamar (born c. 08/1883 in WV), John B. Lamar (born 02/1889 in WV) and Charles B. Lamar (born 05/1893 in CA).

The 1900 US Census reported that Richard worked as a shoe salesman, while his elder brother Richard was a crockery salesman.
