John K. Branner was born in Bloomington, IN, the location of the University of Indiana, where his father received his Ph.D. in geology and where he taught for the first five years of his teaching career (c. 1885-1891).

Branner traveled to Europe during 1912-1913 and 1917-1919. He applied for a US Passport in 04/1924 to enable him to travel to France, Italy and Spain in that year. Biographical Notes

Until 01/03/2017, PCAD erroneously referred to John Kennedy Branner as "John Winford Branner."

According to his 04/18/1924 US Passport Application, at age 37, Branner stood 5-feet, 11 and 1/2-inches tall, had a high forehead, straight nose, round chin, fair complexion and oval face. He sported a moustache and had thin hair and blue-gray eyes.

John K. Branner returned with his mother aboard the S.S. Lurline from Honolulu, HI, to San Francisco, CA, between 11/19/1937 and 11/24/1937.
