His obituary stated: "After working as a radio operator on ships and for CBS affiliate KWG in Stockton, CA, he became a mechanical engineer. During WW II he worked on building British aircraft bases in No. Ireland, and after D Day, on setting up cold storage facilities in France for food for the US Army. After the war he was the head of Dudley Deane and Associates, a consulting engineering firm in S.F., and later was a property developer in the Bay Area." He and Hazel Deane lived during the 1960s in San Rafael, CA. They moved to Ashland, OR, in 1982 as their retirement home. He lived there 20 years before dying on 02/22/2002.

He married Hazel I. Deane (born 09/15/1922 in Ipswitch, England-d. 01/26/2018 in Ashland, OR) Hazel immigrated to the US after World War II, and settled by the early 1950s in the San Francisco Bay Area. She worked as a bookkeeper and volunteered actively in the community during her lifetime.
According to her obituary appearing in the Ashland Daily Tidings.com: "In the early 1950s, she worked as a bookkeeper for Dudley Deane and Associates in San Francisco. She married William Dudley Deane there in 1957 and resided with him in various places in California for the next 25 years, and in Ashland for an additional 20 years, until his death in 2002. In the 1960s, they lived in San Rafael, California, and Hazel volunteered at Sunny Hills, a non-profit which has helped at-risk children and adolescents since 1895. She also volunteered for the Marin Ballet Company at that time. Starting about 1970, Hazel volunteered to help poor and underfed youth in an ashram in India. In Ashland, she became one of the first Reiki Masters in the U.S. She volunteered in local hospitals doing Reiki healing for patients. She delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. She was a member of and volunteered for the local parish of Trinity Episcopal Church, running the book store, doing rummage sales, and helping with flower arrangements for funerals and events."
