Proprietor, Oriental Hotel, San Francisco, CA, c. 1853. This four-story hotel was located on the corner of Battery Street and Bush Street. In 1852, the California State Census listed Caleb Hyatt as a "hotelkeeper." It noted that he was 47 years old, Caucasian, and had been born in New York State. He had previously livec in New York State before coming to San Francisco.
