He and his wife, Olive, had a three-month-old daughter, named either Alla or Alta. Ashby married twice. His first wife was Olive E. Job, whom he married c. 1864. Olive was one of five children raised by a single mother, Susan P. Job. Children

The 1900 US Census indicated that George and Olive had had three children, two of whom were alive in that year. The same census form indicated, however, three children living in the Ashby household. These included Alta (born c. 10/1879 in IA), Carl Harry (born c. 07/1883 in IA), and Mable or Mabel (born c. 07/1888 in IA). Alta died before 1900.

George and Essie had another daughter, Jennie, (born 06/1898 in CA, listed in the 1920 US Census at "Jane"). She married Oscar W. Lane (born c. 1895 in IL).

Biographical Notes

At age 43, George H. Asby stood 5-feet, 8-inches tall, had a dark complexion, hazel eyes and black hair.
