The 1930 US Census indicated that John worked as a building contractor in Seattle; the same census also noted that the family had three children living at home, Kenneth, Maymie B. (born c. 1914 in WA) and Ripley Stuart (born c. 1908 in WA), who worked as a carpenter. The 1920 Census supplemented the children's names with Mary J. (born c. 1906 in WA), and Clayton (born c. 1908 in WA).
