A notice in a 1932 issue (month unknown) of the Architect and Engineer (vols. 108-109) on page 83, indicated that the firm's name had been changed to "R. McLeran Company."
Relocation
Ralph T. McLeran was born in CA to parents with Scottish and Irish ancestries, and appears to have remained in the Bay Area throughout his whole life. At age two, he lived with his parents and seven brothers and sisters in Santa Clara, CA. The 1870 US Census indicated that the family owned $2,000 worth of real estate and maintained $300 in other assets. Parents
His mother, Honora (born c. 1835 in Ireland) had many children and maintained the large household. As listed in the US Census of 1870, his brothers and sisters included John (born c. 1854 in CA), Charlotte (born c. 1855 in CA), Julia E. (born c. 1858 in CA), Byron J. (born c. 1860 in CA), Mary Anne (born c. 1862 in CA), Susan J. (born c. 1864 in CA) and Etta (born 05/1870 in CA). His father, T.G. McLeran (born c. 1827 in VT) worked as a laborer, according to the US Census of 1880. Ralph's sisters mentioned in the 1880 Census were Julia (age 19), Mollie (age 15), Susie (age 13), and Belle (age 9). He married Madeline Corcoran McLeran (born 06/04/1870), who, in 1931, worked for Ralph McLeran and Company, General Contractors. In 1910-1911, Ralph, a 40-year-old bachelor lived in the widow Madeline Corcoran's rooming house. She had at least two children prior to their marriage.
Biographical Notes
Ralph and Madeline vacationed in Hawaii in 1922; they returned to San Francisco via the steamship S.S. H.F. Alexander from Honolulu between 06/27/1922 and 07/01/1922.
