Partner, Mahony Brothers, Building Contractors, San Francisco, CA, c. 1881-1906. The firm won the contract for the 10-story Crocker Building at 600 Market Street in 1890. The San Francisco Call and Post newspaper said in 04/1890: “The contract for the erection of the ten-story Crocker building on the Post and Market street gore has been let to Mahoney Bros., who will begin work at once. The carpenter and building contractor John Joseph Mahony was born in Mitchestown, County Cork, Ireland in 05/1842. He followed his brother Jeremiah, seven years older, to the US. Jeremiah was naturalized in San Francisco’s 4th District Court on 10/01/1864, while his brother John was naturalized on 11/02/1864, in the same court. In 1882, San Francisco voter records indicated that Jeremiah O. Mahony and his brother John Joseph Mahony resided together at 425 Stevenson Street. In 1900, John J. and Mary Mahony resided at 1150 Fulton Street with their four children, and two servants, Lizzie Sullivan (born c. 1882) and a man named Harry with no surname listed (born c. 1876 in Japan).
