Wrenn was born in Benton County, OR, attended the Oregon Agricultural College in Corvallis, and subsequently traveled in the Eastern US during the mid-to-late 1880s. He made his way back to Portland, OR, by 1891, where he worked until 1897, when he got wanderlust again and sought his fortune in the Klondike. He returned to Portland, where he worked from 1901 until 1923.
