Frank Jackson resettled in the Bay Area at the invitation of Berkeley architect John Galen Howard, whom he knew in New York. In 1901, Howard needed talented draftsmen to assist him in preparing modified designs for the University of California Campus. He encouraged Jackson and Charles P. Weeks to come West at this time. (See Sally B. Woodbridge, John Galen Howard and the University of California, [Berkeley: University of California Press, 2002], p. 57.)
