Relocation
Matthew Dow, a native of Scotland, came to Ballard, WA, in 1889, just after the Great Fire of that year. The article, "The New Orpheum," spoke of Dow's fine reputation as a builder, saying "his twenty-one years' residence in Seattle and his name is a sufficient guarantee of excellence in the line of construction." (See "The New Orpheum," Town Crier, 05/20/1911, p. 7.) In 1901, he lived in a dwelling at Broadway and 2nd Avenue in what was the independent town of Ballard, WA.
