His brother, Alexander, who was 67 at the time, 9 years older than William, did not have an office address listed, and may have been retired at this time. In 1910, William and his wife, Louise, continued to live with his parents at 1315 Franklin Street. He was 40 at this time. The Milwains also had taken in two boarders, two public school teachers, Katharine Beauvais (1877-1943) and Evangeline Rockwell (born c. 1881 in English-speaking Canada).

He lived with Louise, in an apartment building at 2121 Webster Street in Downtown Oakland, CA, in 1920. The couple resided in a house at 1503 Oakland Avenue in Oakland between 1926 and 1930, at least. The house had an approximate value of $10,000 according to the 1930 US Census. Milwain's father, Alexander (born 02/1833 in NY) operated a contracting business in Oakland in 1900. They included, a son, Alexander (1860-1942), who also became an architect, and a daughter, Ruth, (1858-1947), who worked as a music teacher. Spouse
