Personal

His father was Conrad Buff II, a Swiss immigrant who came the US when he was 19; Buff II learned to become a baker and also developed into a well-known, regional landscape painter. His mother was Mary Marsh Buff, who, along with her husband, produced children's books from 1937-1951. The buffs moved in artistic circles in Los Angeles at the time, and knew architects Richard Neutra (1892-1970) and Rudolph M. Schindler (1887-1953). An artistic community existed in Eagle Rock, where the Buff's lived, near to the growing Occidental College. (The Buffs also were an early client of Neutra's, who commissioned the young Austrian to redesign their front entryway and garage.) Conrad and Mary had two sons.

Conrad Buff III married Elizabeth (Libby) Buff; they met at the recently commissioned (04/01/1943) 6,412-acre, Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River (PAX River), MD. This facility served various purposes, including receiving and dissecting captured aircraft from various combatants in the Second World War.

Conrad III and Elizabeth had two children: Conrad IV and Chris Anne Buff. Buff IV worked as a film editor in Hollywood.
