His father was the well-known golf course designer, Robert Trent Jones, Sr., (1906-2000), who established Robert Trent Jones, Incorporated, in the late 1930s. Jones, Sr., designed several West Coast courses (mostly in CA) including, Glendora Country Club, Glendora, CA, (1957), Spyglass Hill, Pebble Beach, CA, (1966), Mission Viejo Country Club, Mission Viejo, CA, (1967) and the Eagle Point Golf Course, Eagle Point, OR, (1996). His brother, Rees Jones (b. 1941), was also a golf course designer.
