Hall, John D., Architectural Designer

Professional History

Principal, John D. Hall, Architectural Designer, Seattle, WA; Hall referred to himself in 1921 as a "Builder and Designer of Fashionable Homes." It appears that he began his career as a designer/builder in 1921 and worked until approximately 1933 or 1934. (See R.L. Polk, Seattle City Directory, 1921, p. 700.) He was listed in the Polk's Seattle (Washington) City Directory 1933 (vol XLVII), (p. 655) as an architect with an office at 422 Smith Tower. He abandoned his practice in 1934, when the city directory indicated that he worked as a doorman at "SF Co." (See Polk's Seattle (Washington) City Directory 1934 [vol XLVIII], p. 641.) (In 1935, he continued working as a doorman, p. 662.) Hall reappeared in the 1936 and 1937 Polk's City Directories again listed as an architect and then completely disappears from the Seattle City Directory.

Personal

In 1921, Hall and his wife, Gladys Brown, lived at 2721 31st Avenue South; in 1923, they resided at 2350 Shoreland Drive; in 1933, they lived at 119 37th Avenue North. Neither he nor his wife appeared in any city directory after 1938. (See Polk's Seattle [Washington] City Directory 1938 [vol LII], p. 644.)

He was married to Gladys Brown Hall.

He was listed as a leasing agent ("Lessee Waldorf Apartments") located at 704 Pike Street in 1913. (See R.L. Polk Seattle Buyer's Guide, 1913, p. 789.) The R.L. Polk City Directory of 1932 indicated that Hall called himself an architect; he did not belong to the American Institute of Architects.
