Cash, Architect, Portland, OR, 1941-1954; Cash retired in 1954; Cash was issued Oregon's Architects License #76, when architectural registration became required in 1919; since he had long practiced in the state, he was "grandfathered" into certification;
In 1895, he lived with his mother in either a rooming house or apartment building at 1122 East Superior Street, Duluth, MN; no record of his father, Charles P. Cash, was made in this Minnesota Territorial Census, perhaps because he already had moved to Atlanta, GA; by 1900, Cash's parents, Charles and Grace, had moved to Atlanta, where his family lived at 22 Queen Street SW. (The household also included a boarder, 32-year-old Mrs. W.D. Ramsey [b. 09/1867 in AL].) The family moved to the city sometime between 1895-1898, the latter date when his sister Virginia was born; in 1910, Cash lived in Portland, OR, with his family at 460 Chapman, although there is no record of where this might have been other than it was in Portland's 5th Ward; at this time, Eugene Nostrand, a draftsman, boarded with the family; Nostrand was 27 and may have helped Earl, then 17, find work as a draftsman, too. When Cash retired in 1954, he relocated to Pasadena, CA, where he lived for 2 years.
In 1895, he lived with his mother, Grace A. Cash, (born 08/1868 in MI); her parents had come from NY (father) and MI (mother); his father was Charles P. Cash, (b. 05/1860 in MI), who worked as a book keeper in 1900; his parents had come from PA (father) and OH (mother); Charles had been married twice, the second time to Grace; Earl had two sisters, Virginia (b. 03/1898 in GA) and Helen (b. 02/1900 in GA, died before 1910); Grace Cash had 4 children, 3 of whom were alive in 1900, and two were alive after 1910. Charles worked as a bank book keeper in 1910.
Wife, Harriet;
Richard E. Ritz was not sure of Cash's date of birth, which he indicated could have been 1892 or 1894; see Richard Ellison Ritz, Architects of Oregon, (Portland, OR: Lair Hill Publishing, 2003), p. 69; The Social Security Death Index recorded his birth on 12/13/1892; SSN: 541704721;
