Personal

Relocation

Born in Seattle, WA, five-year-old Charles A. Lawrence, Jr., lived with his parents in a rented dwelling at 406 14th Avenue North in Seattle in 1920. According to the US Census of that year, the Lawrences also took in a roomer, Annette Hurst (born c. 1893 in MI), a 27-year-old widow, who worked as a stenographer. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Year: 1920; Census Place: Seattle, King, Washington; Roll: T625_1928; Page: 3B; Enumeration District: 186, accessed 08/20/2019.) They remained at this address in 1924. (See Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1924, p. 890.)

By 1926, the Lawrences owned a residence at 1128 23rd Avenue North. (See Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1926, p. 903.) The US Census of 1930 indicated that Lottie's sister, Anna, who had divorced previously, lived with the family. Anna worked as a bookkeeper in a department store at the time, perhaps the same as that of Charles, Sr. The Lawrence House had an estimated value of $6,000, lower than those in its immediate neighborhood, which was relatively affluent. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Year: 1930; Census Place: Seattle, King, Washington; Page: 28A; Enumeration District: 0092; FHL microfilm: 2342231, accessed 08/20/2019.) His parents remained at this address in 1943, and Charles, Jr., continued to live with them.
