According to the US Census of 1920, she came to the US in 1910, and was still an alien in the country. His father, Thomas Burton Hunter, Sr., (born in either 1836 or 12/1837 in PA-d. 11/28/1911 in Philadelphia, PA) was a clergyman; his wife, Josephine Husbands, (born 10/1844 in DE) had two sons, and maintained the household. They wed on 12/15/1879 in DE. Thomas may have married before Josephine. Records indicated that a Thomas B. Hunter married a woman named Annie M. Minors on 10/30/1871 in DE. In 1920, Thomas and Edith had two sons, Thomas R. III Hunter (born c. 1910 in CA) and Hale Van Barcaloo Hunter (born 11/03/1917 in San Francisco, CA- d. 06/07/1998 in Carmel, CA).

Hunter designed the Cabrillo Bridge and the assisted in the design of the Botanical Building at the Panama-California International Exposition of 1915-1916;
