Hare first practiced alone for 8 years and then formed a landscape architecture firm with his son, S. Herbert Hare in Kansas City in 1910. Sidney collaborated with his son for 28 years. This firm later merged first with the city planning firm, Lawrence-Leiter and Company in 1975, a merger that lasted only until 1977; Hare and Hare was purchased finally by Ochnser and Associates, to form Ochsner Hare and Hare, Planning Consultants and Landscape Architects, in 1980.
Born in Louisville, KY, Sidney Hare moved at age 8 to Kansas City, MO, where he spent most of his childhood. He graduated from high school, but did not attend college. He entered the office of Kansas City's City Engineer, where he worked between 1881 and 1896. He then took a position as Superintendent of the Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, where he remained for 6 more years before he opened his own landscape architecture firm. He practiced on his own for 8 years in Kansas City, before incorporating with his son, S. Herbert, in 1910. Hare and Hare developed a practice national in reach during their 28 years in business. He died in Kansas City, MO, in 1938.
