Personal

Relocation

Born in Saxony, Germany, Bergfeld moved to the US by 1884, according to his 1930 US Census record. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Year: 1930; Census Place: Tacoma, Pierce, Washington; Page: 8B; Enumeration District: 0152; FHL microfilm: 2342245, accessed 07/12/2021.)

Bergfeld rented a room from Rachel Stillwell at 1301 South G Street in Tacoma, WA, according to the US Census of 1910. He was one of eight boarders at the time the census was taken on 04/15/1910. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Year: 1910; Census Place: Tacoma Ward 3, Pierce, Washington; Roll: T624_1664; Page: 2A; Enumeration District: 0240; FHL microfilm: 1375677, accessed 07/12/2021.)

The architect dwelled by himself at 2132 South Wilkeson Street in 1920. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Year: 1920; Census Place: Tacoma Ward 5, Pierce, Washington; Roll: T625_1937; Page: 8B; Enumeration District: 335, accessed 07/12/2021.)

He and his daughter Pauline rented a house at 707 East 65th Stteet in Tacoma in 1930. They paid a modest $15 per month in rent at the time. (See Ancestry.com, Source Citation Year: 1930; Census Place: Tacoma, Pierce, Washington; Page: 8B; Enumeration District: 0152; FHL microfilm: 2342245, accessed 07/12/2021.)

He passed away at age 97 in Everett, WA.

Spouse

He wed Lydia Charlotta Boman (born 1882 in Sweden-d. 11/26/1921) on 01/09/1912 in Pierce County, WA. (See Ancestry.com: Source Information Washington, U.S., County Marriages, 1855-2008 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2014, accessed 07/12/2021.)

This was her second marriage. Her first was to Alfred W. Oquist (1873–1949) with whom she had two children: Alphonso Lewis Oquist (1902–1973) and Laurence W Oquist (1906–1969).

It is likely that Lydia was at least separated from Paul Bergfeld by 1917. R.L. Polk and Company's Tacoma, Washington, City Directory, 1917, (p. 120) indicated that Lydia was a "widow" who lived at 809 South 12th Street in Tacoma, while Paul, very much alive, lived at 2132 South Wilkeson Street. His 1920 US Census record indicated that Bergfeld was divorced.

Children

Lydia had one child with Paul Bergfeld, Pauline Hazel Bergfeld Thorlakson (1913–1982).

Biographical Notes

Bergfeld was naturalized a US citizen by 1892, according to Bergfeld's 1920 US Census record.
