Personal

Peters married Svetlana Wright (d. 1946), the adopted daughter of Frank Lloyd and his third wife of Montenegrin descent, Olga (Olgivanna) Ivanovna Lazovich (1898-1985) in 1935; Svetlana died in an automobile accident in 1946. Peters also married Joseph Stalin's youngest child, Svetlana Alliluyeva (1926-2011), in 1970, from whom he was later divorced. Alliluyeva defected from the Soviet Union in 1967, renouncing her father's tyrannical rule and cutting ties with two grown children. Three years later, at the behest of Olgivanna Wright, Alliluyeva traveled to Scottsdale, AZ, to visit Taliesin West. Olgivanna, who maintained a strong belief in Theosophy, had a mystical sense that Stalin's daughter was meant to replace her daughter Svetlana as Peters's wife. She sought to bring the two together, which occurred soon thereafter. Alliluyeva, in short order, began to chafe at the regimented way of life at Taliesin West, and soon broke with Peters.

Peters had a son, Brandoch, with Svetlana Wright; he had a daughter, Olga, with Svetlana Alliluyeva. She was later known as Olga Evans.

Peters was an acolyte of Frank Lloyd Wright, and was the longtime head of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
