Diamond built his family's parking lot business (established in the 1920s by brothers Leon and Louis) into one of the largest in the Western United States. In 2007, his company, Diamond Parking, owned more than 1,000 parking lots and 200 commercial office buildings. Diamond was primarily an attorney, practicing ath the Seattle firm of Caldwell and Lycette for 53 years; he pursued supervision of his parking lot business in his free time.
Diamond came from Ukrainian-Jewish parents who fled the Czar in the early 1900s. He was the fourth child in the family and the first to attend college, obtaining a B.A., University of Washington, Seattle, 1928. He earned an J.D. from the University of Washington Law School in 1931, at the height of the Depression.
Diamond was married three times; Violett Diamond, to whom he was married 47 years; Ann Dulien, who died prior to him; and his third wife, Muriel Diamond.
Diamond had two children: Joel and Diane Diamond Foreman, four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
