Relocation
While working as a draftsman for Kenitzer and Raun, Architects, in 1878 and 1879, Devlin lived at 1812 Dupont Street in San Francisco. (See San Francisco City Directory, 1878, p. 286 and San Francisco City Directory, 1879, p. 265.) In 1878, James Devlin, a building contractor, also lived at 1812 Dupont.
Charles Devlin resided at 224 Stanyan Street in San Francisco in 1922. At this time, Marie F.V. Devlin, an artist, lived at the same address. (See San Francisco City Directory, 1922, p. 572.)
Biographical Notes
Henry F. Withey and Elsie Rathburn Withey's mistake-studded book, Biographical Dictionary of American Architects (Deceased), (Los Angeles: New Age Publishing Company, 1956) referred to the architect as "Charles H. Devlin."
As a result of his personal connections with Archbishop Riordan, Charles J.I., Devlin obtained a sizable amount of work for the Catholic Church in the Bay Area.
