Crowell was originally from Canada; he came to the U.S. c. 1888 (this according to the U.S. Census of 1920). The Crowells lived as newlyweds at 778 North Fair Oaks Avenue, Pasadena, CA, in 1900. The U.S. Censuses of 1910 and 1920, indicated that he owned his house located at 341 North Marengo Avenue; he and his wife lived here at least until 1924. William Crowell died in Los Angeles County, CA, at the age of 78.

William Crowell parents both came from Canada.

He married Iva G. Crowell (born 08/1877 in Canada) in 1900; she immigrated to the U.S. in 1899 (according to the U.S. Census of 1920). (According to the U.S. Census of 1900, she immigrated in 1890, as did William Crowell.) Her parents both were Canadian.

William and Iva Crowell had eight children: Elsie May (born 07/11/1900 in Pasadena, CA), Ruth M. (born c. 1902 in CA), Paul H. (born c. 1905 in CA), Robert A. (born c. 1908), William D. (born c. 1910 in CA), Elizabeth S. (born c. 1911), Harvey C. (born c. 1914), Eugene F. (born c. 12/1916); the family also had a live-in servant, Gertrude Kempton (born c. 1892 in Canada).
