Portuguese sculptor Alvaro DeBree created this 14-foot statue of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, (1499-1543), the first European to navigate the coast of California, for the 1939 San Francisco Golden Gate International Exposition. It was later relocated to a site in front of the Old Spanish Lighthouse, Point Loma, San Diego, CA.
